The annual graduation of CREATE’s Medically Supervised program and intensive residential program was held on October 8, 2004 at the Harlem New York State Office Building at 125th Street and Seventh Avenue. The men and women had achieved recovery for a year or more and were either gainfully employed or in education or training for their careers.
Ralph Perez, Executive Director of CREATE, Inc. and an affiliate of Holy Name Province spoke to the graduates encouraging them to continue their recovery from alcohol or substance abuse dependence and to continue to tie into the CREATE Family.
Dr. Melissa Freeman, an administrator at Beth Israel Hospital, gave the keynote speech in which she demonstrated the possibility of success in recovery from addiction from her medical experience in treating persons with addiction. Dr. Freeman was followed by a member of the graduation class and an alumnus from last year’s class who inspired through their words and example.
Participating in the graduation were the following: Fr. Benedict Taylor, O.F.M., Founder and Franciscan, CREATE Board Members: Sr. Maria Goretti-Manix, FHM, Fr. Hugh F. Hines, O.F.M. and Fr. Christopher Keenan, O.F.M..
The ceremony was followed by lunch for graduates and guests |
